The one great military leader that I would most like to meet is General Colin L. Powell. Once Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Powell enjoyed success, but not before working extremely hard for his entire life. Being the first African American to accomplish the feats he has, Colin Powel has become a true inspiration for me. He has been a successful pioneer in a world where no one expected him to succeed. His strength in leadership, as well as laudable character, are just a few of the qualities that I admire about this man. I try my hardest, through the Boy Scouts of America and other community volunteer work, to embody these characteristics in my daily life. Powell served with honor and distinction through his entire military career, including two tours in Vietnam. The courage and valor he has displayed during his career are traits that I find extremely commendable and praiseworthy. In becoming an Eagle Scout, I have been provided a moral foundation by which I can base my life. I see the same base in Colin Powell, and it allows me to relate to him in this aspect. I look at him, and I can see what he has done with his life, how he has beaten the odds, and how much all of his accomplishments have amounted to. It gives me a real reason to try- in school and outside of school. I see others around me, most notably Colin Powell, and it causes me to realize just how much I can do with my life if I always try my hardest. Colin Powell has been a major inspiration for me, and is one of the key reasons why I have been as unrelenting as I have been for the past four years in high school. Colin Powell taught me never to give up in the face of adversity, and to always try my hardest, and that is exactly what I have done.
